West Baltimore — Antonio Smith was sentenced to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to distributing heroin and conspiracy to distribute narcotics to an undercover police officer. Assistant State’s Attorney (ASA) Jay Malik prosecuted the case.

The plea came at the conclusion of a months-long undercover initiative in 2016 in the vicinity of the 2100 block of Wilkens Avenue, during which time Baltimore Police officers bought drugs from Smith and several of his associates on multiple occasions.

“Drug distribution tears neighborhoods apart,” said State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby. “This was a successful initiative to remove the defendant’s poisonous operation from this West Baltimore community that deserves so much more. The officers who put this operation together are true professionals, and I commend them for their work that resulted in ASA Malik securing this plea and sentence.”

At sentencing, ASA Malik argued for 17 years in prison and asked the bench to violate Smith on his probation.
