Deputy State’s Attorney Operations
Valda Ricks joined the office in 2016 as Deputy State’s Attorney of Operations. In her role she supervises all District Court, Central Booking, Misdemeanor, Juvenile, and Problem Solving Court operations.
In 1991, Deputy Ricks started her legal career in the Office of the Public Defender as a volunteer intern. Upon being admitted to the Maryland Bar in 1994, she was hired as an attorney. Throughout her 25-year career with the Office of the Public Defender, Deputy Ricks worked in the Child in Need of Assistance, District Courts, Misdemeanor Jury Trial , and Felony Trial divisions. Before retiring from the Office of the Public Defender, Deputy Ricks served as the Chief Attorney of the Misdemeanor Unit.
Believing that we all have an obligation to give back, Deputy Ricks has maintained her commitment to the community throughout her legal career by mentoring high school and college students, as well as organizing outreach in the Brooklyn and Cherry Hill communities. Additionally, she is a very active member of the legal community with memberships in the Bar Association of Baltimore City (Judicial Selections, Bench Bar, Government and Public Interest committees), Alliance of Black Women Attorneys, and the Monumental City Bar Association (Judicial Selections and Community Outreach committees).
Deputy Ricks is a longtime resident of Baltimore City, and the mother of four college graduates.
