Job Description:

The Office of the State’s Attorney is seeking to fill the position of Assistant State’s Attorney (ASA) in the Special Victims Unit. The ASA will be co-located with partners at the Baltimore Child Abuse Center at 2300 North Charles Street Baltimore, MD, in order to collaborate with police and domestic violence, child abuse, and sexual assault advocates to support and enhance domestic violence and sexual assault investigations and cases.  This is a 1.5 year grant position, and continuation of employment is dependent upon renewal of the grant.

Duties of the ASA include the initial review of serious domestic violence investigations initiated by police, including dating violence and cases involving child witnesses.  The ASA will also review sexual assault cases involving victims over 13 years old. The ASA will work closely with the Baltimore City Police Department’s Family Crimes Unit and other BPD officers at the Baltimore Child Abuse Center located at 2300 North Charles Street Baltimore. The ASA will collaborate with victim-witness advocates from the House of Ruth and Baltimore Child Abuse Center to enhance the screening, charging and prosecution of these cases. The ASA will attend regular case review meetings with police investigators, victim-witness advocates, licensed social workers, and forensic interviewers. The ASA will screen cases for prosecution in the Circuit and District Courts and will participate in trainings for law enforcement and other attorneys. The ASA will monitor forensic interviews of children conducted by trained forensic interviewers.

The ASA will also be responsible for working with the grant partners to complete all required quarterly grant reports. 


Applicants must possess a JD and be admitted to practice law in the state of Maryland. Applicants must have at least 3 years of experience working on domestic violence, child abuse, sexual assault or similar cases.

The selected candidate will be required to submit to drug and alcohol testing as well as a criminal background check prior to starting employment.

Salary: $80,000. Benefits are associated with this position.
