BALTIMORE CITY GRAND JURY INDICTS BRANDON LONG

FOR FIRST-DEGREE MURDER, ASSAULT, CONSPIRACY TO ASSAULT

AND HANDGUN COUNTS

Baltimore, MD – November 20, 2009 – State’s Attorney Patricia C. Jessamy announced today that the Baltimore City Grand Jury indicted Brandon Long, 24, of the 2100 block of Presstman Street for first-degree murder, assault, conspiracy to assault first-degree and handgun counts.  The indictment filed on November 19, 2009.

Court documents allege that on September 18, 2009 Brandon Long was responsible for a shooting in the 600 block of Ashburton Street.  Long allegedly shot Stanley Mooring after Mooring allegedly stabbed an acquaintance of Long.  Police responding to the 2700 block of Edmondson Avenue discovered the first victim suffering from stab wounds to the chest.  The second victim was discovered in the 600 block of Ashburton Street suffering from gunshot wounds to the torso.  He was later identified as Stanley Mooring.  An investigation revealed several males approached Mooring which then escalated into a physical altercation.  Mooring was able to free himself from his attackers, produce a knife, stab his attacker and flee the scene.  Long allegedly chased Mooring to the 600 block of Ashburton Street and shot him.  Mooring died later at University of Maryland Shock Trauma Hospital.

An indictment is not a finding of guilt.  An individual charged by indictment is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty at some later criminal proceeding.

Long is being held at the Baltimore City Detention Center without bail.

An arraignment is scheduled for December 11, 2009 before Judge David W. Young, 227 Courthouse East.
