The Office of the State's Attorney for Baltimore City produced a conviction rate in 2013 of 67.2 percent in Circuit Court felony cases, which include murders, non-fatal shootings, rapes, and sex offenses, marking the third consecutive year that we have delivered a better success rate than the year before State's Attorney Bernstein took office.
We also completed more Circuit Court felonies last year than in 2010, completing 5,641 cases.
Our initiative to investigate, prosecute, and incarcerate the violent, repeat offenders who commit so much of the crime in our City is also producing positive results. The division created to lead the effort, the Major Investigations Unit, has successfully prosecuted some 200 defendants, and in one out every three cases, we earned prison sentences of 10 years or more.
We have much more work to do to make all of Baltimore's neighborhoods safer, but as these numbers reveal, we are making significant progress. For more information, click here.
Please Note: The Office of the State's Attorney for Baltimore City has moved. We are now located at 120 E. Baltimore Street, Baltimore, MD 21202. Our new main number is 443-984-6000.
